由图上看出,国军如果将Hankow西南的部队渡江攻击kiukiang,即可将南昌方向的日军包成饺子。
; d. Q( h) j+ T但日军也看出这一点,而在kiukian一直留有部队,没有全力增援南昌。等到国军兵临南昌城下,考虑到渡河突击的因素,日军更是没有派兵南下增援。9 ]. E0 f' c1 s3 Y/ k
如果国军将Hankow西南的强有力的部队全力渡江,达成合围还是可以的。但日军不会轻易投降,且考虑到Hankow日军可能乘机大举南下,一旦封住长沙要点,国军无力将其驱走,那战局必然糜烂不可收拾。* q; B( n  ]) i* l5 }% F' b1 ]
所以国军仍然采用保守的正面强推战术。
