盟军舰队没想到在印度洋上会遭遇到日军舰队的偷袭，慢速的CVE编队遭受了措手不及的打击，虽然日军舰队相对盟军舰队优势并不明显，仅仅多一条加古号老式CA，但是胜在打有准备之仗，一轮猛轰，成功击沉盟军舰队中的英国CVE酋长号HMS Rajah，同时击伤竞技者号和长岛号，重创另一艘英国CVE活跃号HMS Activity。此外，还击伤大量盟军DD，自身损伤轻微。5 a6 ^2 J( I2 Z" r5 {( k
