盟军在44年的第二次攻击行动获得圆满成功，在包括美国太平洋四虎老大老二衣阿华新泽西在内的十几艘战列舰和几十艘巡洋舰对美丽的，呈三角形的小小环礁进行了饱和炮击，岛上日军被几万发大口径炮弹震的生活不能自理。盟军登陆部队轻松拿下南鸟岛，全歼岛上6000多日军。
