南鸟岛太小，58也不可能在这么靠近日本本土的地方常驻，原本就是个作为牵制作用的行动。如果盟军选择在这里消耗，对日军来说当然是不错的，毕竟换其他地方有大型机场支持的话，58的行动会更加安全，而机场的压制代价会大很多。  q4 N3 q/ E* }, q- O$ u
估计盟军还是会选择其他地方作为主攻点，不会在这里长期消耗

战斗已经进行到2月24日，似乎是为了报复日军在南鸟岛对盟军驻岛部队的轰炸，盟军在对霍洛岛狂轰滥炸数月之后似乎还觉得不够过瘾，调用攻击机进行超低空对地轰炸，企图扩大杀伤效果，结果被地面上的日军防空兵部队敲下数架飞机，不幸成为当天轰炸霍洛岛的盟军机队中损失最大的机种。4 t1 o6 f; C; [8 d0 P" z
另外2月23日，刚刚在船坞升级完毕出海巡游的扶桑号战列舰不幸在太平洋中被盟军潜艇命中一雷，虽然有赖重甲护身，伤势不重，但是显然又要长时间趴在船台上了。

2月25日夜，恩代尼岛发生了最后一次小规模海战，偷袭的日军水雷战队在击沉外围的2艘DE和一些鱼雷艇后突入恩代尼港口，但是在港内不幸踩雷，不得不退出战区，看来，恩代尼附近海域已经越来越不适合水面舰只活动了。
