3 {. m8 Z0 A2 w1 a) m8 M以仙台的第2师团为母体,重建之后不久就被调往813事变的上海前线。1940年8月,日军第十四师团被任命在中国满州永久驻屯,隶属关东军。太平洋战争爆发后,经过了关东军特别演习后,第十四师团依然在满州驻扎。然而以日军在瓜岛被美军击败后,日军在太平洋上开始节节败退。1943年8月,日本大本营策定了绝对国防圈(千岛列岛、硫磺岛、马里亚那诸岛—卡罗林岛—马绍尔群岛、西新几内亚、缅甸),但是要守这么漫长的防卫线,太平洋上现有的日军兵力是不够的。所以在满州驻屯的第十四师团被抽调出来派往帕劳群岛。第十四师团在1944年4月末到达帕劳群岛。第十四师团主力担任帕劳本岛的防卫任务,而步兵第2联队负责拥有机场的佩里留岛的防卫任务。帕劳群岛南端的安加维尔岛的防卫则是交给了步兵第59联队第1大队。1944年6月美军攻占塞班岛。进入1944年9月,美军加强了对帕劳群岛的轰炸。1944年9月15日,美军海军陆战队第1师开始准备在佩里留岛登陆。1944年11月20日,日军守备队指挥官中川州男大佐(步兵第2联队长)向日军大本营发出最后一封诀别电报之后切腹自尽,到1944年11月20日为止第十四师团步兵第2联队共抵抗了70天。与此同时,安加维尔岛的守备队约1200名官兵在美军第81师约2万名士兵的猛攻下,33天后全军覆没。在帕劳本岛的第十四师团主力虽然没有遭到美军的攻击,但在饥饿和空袭的威胁下也损失惨重,无条件投降对他们来说是种解脱。
