盟军一队由4艘CVE和CVL组成的袭扰小分队在大量DD的护卫下在12月靠近日军的南洋防线，侦察各地的防御强度，并企图伺机轰炸日军重要的油料港口——巨港，但是，由于日军防卫严密，盟军舰队没有找到漏洞可钻，只能悻悻然返航会科伦坡。
# E1 Y" {- j: J. ]% ~: v5 e. Q' R不料，日军也早已发觉这支舰队的存在，并且不断对其的行踪进行追踪，在注意到盟军舰队返航的路径靠近日军基地sabang后，日军驻守南洋的分舰队果断全速出击！同时卧薪尝胆苦练技能的陆军陆攻机队也做好了出击准备。
