2 S$ ~4 w% ^: d/ C+ o 1944年1月24日,恩代尼岛战役结束后,帝国侦察到盟军正在组织运输力量将恩代尼驻军分批撤出,由于恩代尼岛距离日军所罗门主要的前沿阵地瓜岛图拉吉一带仅仅9格距离,正落在日军现役多种主力战斗机带油箱后的标准航程内,因此,自卢干维尔海空战以来呕心沥血,励精图治的帝国海航和部分陆航机队一直策划在恩代尼一带寻机打一场大规模海空战。很早之前帝国参谋部人员就意识到恩代尼岛的诱饵价值,不仅仅可以利用有利的距离条件,使盟军部队再战斗中落入日军飞机的有效攻击半径,而且恩代尼岛本身被盟军攻占后可以使日军采用战斗机扫场战术,避免像上次卢干维尔战役那样直接护航进场被打火鸡,种种条件都要比上次战役优越,使得帝国对本次策划已久的战役抱有期待。* t$ V5 d# u3 S6 T" h% |% N* C8 l* Z
在发现恩代尼岛停泊大量盟军运输船和战斗舰只之后,帝国判断盟军已经开始撤出行动,因此在23日当天转场超过1000架各型战斗机和攻击机进驻伦加,图拉吉,塔萨法隆加,以及论内尔岛4个机场,以上4个机场除了塔萨法隆加之外均距离恩代尼岛9格距离,从路线上说是完美进攻出发点。

最终,日军以损失战斗机120多架,鱼雷攻击机90多架的代价,击落盟军战斗机120多架,击沉盟军运输船6艘。刨去被火鸡的鱼雷机和护航战斗机,日军在扫场战斗中击落的盟军飞机比自身损失多得多。这个结果还是令人满意的。
* s+ O+ Y7 j% ?值得一提的是,由于护航战斗机在AE中的设定,无论多优秀的战斗机,多精锐的飞行员都难免被打靶子的命运,因此这次作战,帝国果断启用已经被陆基海航战斗机部队淘汰的零战52型充当护航战斗机,并选用菜鸟飞行员充数,省去了无谓的合格飞行员损失,同时,在策划战斗时就已经考虑到可能面临的风险,所以挑选了最老旧的96陆攻机和已经被流星淘汰下来的天山鱼雷机作为攻击机种,并选换了经得起消耗的经验50,技能点65+的飞行员驾驶攻击机,经过这番调整,本次作战取得了比上次作战好看得多的战果,尽管仍未能大量歼灭预定的目标——运输船队,但是无论是飞机的损失还是飞行员的损失,都在可以接受的范围之内,后期日军战斗的战术战法,还需要不断通过这样的一次次战斗来积累经验教训。
