4 b% Y8 ^6 \) f/ e从8月26日盟军登陆波纳佩开始到9月15日日本撤离南鸟岛这20天时间里，在漫长的太平洋前线发生了两场短促的，有内在关联的战役。首先是盟军发起攻击的波纳佩登陆战，由于盟军的准备不足和日军的反应果决，最终战果是：盟军损失2个正规美军步兵团和3个美军坦克团，约一万人的地面部队，并在9月1日的炮击战中损失了2艘轻巡洋舰和一艘驱逐舰，同时在战役中损失了100多架飞机（主要损失发生在8月30日盟军的空中进攻和9月1日夜间的库塞伊炮击战中）。日军在波纳佩反登陆战中损失轻微，仅仅损失了微量的地面部队和约10架左右的飞机。7 t!
