盟军解放者4发机群在爪哇登陆后把矛头对转了巨港一带的日军航空设施，企图利用4发轰炸机的航程优势突袭日军防御力量比较薄弱的后方二线机场，不料遭遇日军同一日正好转场过来的3个战斗机大队，于是本来轻松惬意的偷袭变成了一场苦战，经过激烈的战斗，日军战斗机击落了多达60架4发轰炸机和十多架护航的闪电战斗机，同时自损17架战斗机，虽然盟军还是对机场进行了打击，但是显然得不偿失。
